Alcohol addiction is one of the most common addictions in the UK by far. It is readily available, is easy to drink, and is even socially expected of you on certain occasions.
Learning to say no is a key skill that will help prevent alcohol dependence and it can be learned in a 7-day drug or alcohol rehab programme.
The 7 days can teach you how to stop drinking, how to detox from alcohol safely, what the health risks are if you continue to drink and can teach you how to keep an alcohol drinks journal.
All of this can help prevent a brewing addiction from becoming a debilitating aspect of your life. The detox plus 7-day rehab treatment programmes on offer in England and Wales often take place in private rehab clinics.
These are short rehab programmes that encourage you to recognise and deal with any brewing addictions. If you are a heavy drinker or drug user, the 7-day treatment programmes are unlikely to be enough to get you off drink or drugs without further help.
When you go through alcohol detox or decide to come off drugs, those first few days can be horrendous. We call this the detox period and how long it lasts depends entirely upon the drug or substance you have used.
If you are a heroin addict, for example, you can expect fourteen days of on-again-off-again flu-like symptoms. If you are an alcoholic, you can expect 4-5 days of feeling sick and depressed before things start to improve. It is this detox period that puts people off quitting their addiction because of the anticipated pain.
If you can get through those few days of pain, however, you will find your whole life waiting for you, right where you left it. Getting through the detox period is difficult, yes, but it is also the most worthwhile thing you will ever do with your life.
Once you understand how difficult it is to battle through this tough time, you begin to see why the 7-day treatment programme for rehab from drugs or alcohol is so vital.
It’s an essential service for people that are struggling to resist turning back to the substances which made them addicts in the first place.
We provide personalised support and resources for addiction recovery. Take the first step towards a brighter future today.
Medically assisted detox means your rehab clinic or care provider will help your detox process along with medical interventions. Things like paracetamol and other painkillers may be prescribed during a medical detox.
There are some medicines that might be used for more severe addiction recovery, but you wouldn’t expect to find these in a 7-day treatment plan.
Nevertheless, look out for Antabuse for alcohol or benzodiazepines for stronger addictions. Benzodiazepines have proven to be safer than barbiturates or sedative drugs in this capacity.
Detox is the first stage of the drug and alcohol addiction rehab and involves you allowing the chemicals to leave your body.
If you are in a 7-day rehab programme for a non-substance-related addiction (such as sex or gambling) you will not need to go through a chemical detox, but the cessation can have behavioural side effects.
You cannot recover from a brewing addiction if you are still high. Quitting for good is the first step to addiction recovery.
The withdrawal symptoms you experience will vary depending on your condition and how long you were addicted. Some people may experience withdrawal symptoms that are very mild whereas others may experience more severe withdrawal symptoms. For example, a severe form of alcohol withdrawal is Delirium Tremens. Some of the common drug withdrawal symptoms include:
The length of time your detox will take will depend on what you used, how frequently, and for how long.
When you are in a 7-day detox plus rehab treatment programme, you should expect the detox period to last no more than 3 days. This assumes you have only a budding addiction and not a full-blown, lifelong addiction to drugs or alcohol.
The most effective way to seek help for a brewing drug addiction or to stop drinking alcohol is to opt for a 7-day treatment programme. This one-week course will help you marry an understanding of the problem with a good start towards quitting drugs or stopping drinking for good.
While our 7-day treatment programme is an ideal way to help manage the days immediately after detox, we can then direct you towards the right treatment.
This can be either inpatient treatment/ residential rehab (meaning you stay in the facility for treatment) or outpatient treatment (meaning you can come and go as you please) rehab programme. 7-day detox plus rehab programmes can be taken as an inpatient or as an outpatient.
The cost of a 7-day treatment plan depends on where you live and the level of luxury desired. NHS-assisted rehab can cost from £1,400 per week. Private rehab is more expensive, averaging £3-5k per week, with luxury rehab being the most expensive option.
When you come to us for help with alcohol addictions, emotional disorders, or for advice on drug detox, we will put you in touch with either the outpatient or the inpatient services that are likely to help you most.
As an inpatient, you stay in a private rehab clinic which is either paid for by private health insurance or is partially funded by the NHS.
Inpatient detox and rehab mean you will be taken into a rehab clinic and you will stay there for the duration of the 7 days.
Outpatient rehab means you will stay home in the evenings, but travel to rehab clinics through the day to receive treatment.
You will go through three main stages of recovery during your 7-day treatment plan. First, you will detox from the drink or drug you have been using.
Next, you will spend your days in intensive addiction therapy sessions, instilling healthier lifestyle choices, and learning new ways of managing your addiction. Together, these measures should help you avoid the brewing addiction you have been worried about.
The rehab portion of your 7-day rehab treatment plan will include numerous talking therapies. Speaking to an addiction therapist has numerous benefits, from improved mental health and confidence to a stronger understanding of yourself and your addiction.
Staying sober can be difficult, but with therapy, you will be better equipped to prevent and manage relapse.
There will be group therapy sessions since peer support has proven effective in the treatment of alcohol and drug addictions (such as the 12 steps programme).
Some therapies include cognitive behavioural therapy/ CBT and DBT, REBT and ACT. Interpersonal Therapy may also be used and has proven effective in incidences where CBT has failed.
The final stage of your 7-day drug and alcohol rehab process is to get help transitioning back into your old life. This is called secondary treatment and may include group work, telephone sessions, or online help.
Some facilities offer free aftercare – for example, you may be pointed in the direction of Alcoholics Anonymous/ AA or other free support groups.
Your rehab clinic will have different facilities and amenities depending on which rehab clinic you choose. They may have outdoor sports areas like football pitches or tennis courts
They may have indoor studios for exercise routines. They might have holistic therapies like acupuncture and reiki aimed at helping you to relax and manage those symptoms of withdrawal. You might have access to educational workshops, computing areas, or any other number of facilities.
It is likely you will be sharing a room if you are an NHS patient. You will have washing, laundry, and cooking facilities on hand, although you may be fed a nutritionally balanced meal plan as part of your recovery.
7-day detox and rehab treatments will only be useful for those with brewing conditions, very mild addictions, or those that want to break up treatments with gaps in between to let the therapy work sink in between sessions. It is excellent for emotional disorders and psychiatric problems.
If you have a serious or ongoing addiction that sees you use frequently, long-term treatment may be the best treatment option. You may find the 7-day treatment period has little impact. It is better to go to rehab for too long than not long enough, to investigate other options before you book.
